Don't fall for this magnesium bisglycinate propaganda

Many magnesium bisglycinate products claim to be 100% pure. But they are not - they are lying. They are hiding behind the confusion of how to actually determine magnesium bisglycinate purity. 

What's crappy about this is that we got a few 3-star reviews on Amazon because we are honest about our product. Other companies that lie, and say they are at 100% magnesium bisglycinate get 5-star reviews. 

We know, because we tested their magnesium, and it isn't pure. (Or 100% identified as magnesium bisglycinate...more on that later).

All magnesium bisglycinate starts as magnesium oxide. Then it is reacted to form magnesium bisglycinate. 

The truth is that even though some magnesium bisglycinates say they are 100% magnesium bisglycinate, when we tested their actual identity, the highest amount of magnesium bisglycinate that we found was 85%. The rest was magnesium oxide. And that was the best one. We also found 60% and 65% magnesium bisglycinates - when they claimed 100%.

So here's a more realistic look at what magnesium bisglycinate actually is (if we're being honest)

When we press brands and raw material suppliers for the lab results that justify their 100% purity claims, they either "get confused", hide behind "proprietary information", or don't answer our emails.

In our experience, there's no reason we should just "trust the brand". If you're taking supplements, you should only trust companies that can share their raw material batch identity tests. 

Sidenote: Purity typically refers to a raw material with no heavy metals of contaminants. Identity typically refers to ensuring that the promised material (eg. Mg Bisglycinate) is indeed the promised material (and not Mg Oxide). The average person doesn't know this difference - so we try to use the language of "purity" when we're speaking to people who don't have a background in science. But that's what we mean.

Do we do all of this just for the fun of it? Like, why not just close your eyes and pretend that your magnesium is pure? 

Well, because it makes a difference. It's true that what gets measured gets managed. And we really care about the purity - and we stress about getting you the most pure magnesium bisglycinate we can find. We find that we have deeper sleeps and less GI distress with our magnesium, because it is authentically bisglycinate. And our customers find this too. 

In due time, we want to press suppliers on more and more consistent batches of more and more magnesium bisglycinate.
